Judges follow sales for Booker Prize
Booker winner Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall (Fourth Estate) was the most popular title with the public since the longlist was announced on 28th July.
Since then, the novelist’s 10th novel has sold just over 22,000 copies at UK book retailers according to BookScan data—some 8,500 copies more than Mantel’s nearest rival (at least in sales terms), Sarah Waters’ The Little Stranger (Virago). However, thanks to significantly stronger sales immediately upon release, Waters’ fifth novel was actually the overall Man Booker 2009 sales leader, with just over 40,000 sales through UK book retailer tills.
