Romanian-born German writer Herta Müller has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2009.

The Svenska Akademien hailed her as “[she], who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed”.

Her most recent English-language title was The Appointment, translated by Michael Hulse and Philip Boehm, which was published by US publisher Metropolitan Books in 2001, who also published The Land of Green Plums, translated by Michael Hofmann, in 1996.
