Helming The Times is a collection of speeches by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his capacity of Vice President of Umno. The speeches are candid as they are sincere, self-reflective, clear-cut confessions regarding UMNO’s weaknesses. It also outlines ideas for coping with challenges to preserve the tradition of UMNO as the country’s leader for generations of people.
Indeed, it is the call for the country’s Malays to stride courageously forward, whilst upholding values and initiating changes; striving for distinction in the international arena. While it may seem focus is on the ruling race, Datuk Seri endeavours not to leave the other races behind but to work towards the progress of the country as one people, 1Malaysia.
The 11 chapters are dedicated to the excerpts taken from five of Datuk Seri’s speeches: Helming The Times (2009) ; Elevation Of the Civilisation of The Race (2007); Gearing The Minds of Malays (2006); Generating Glocal Malays(2005) and Continuity and Change (2004). The book Helming The Times is co-published by the Malaysian National Institute Of Translation and MPH Group Publishing and retails at RM42.
