@ The BBC Knowledge Magazine Launch

BBC Knowledge Magazine was launched on 14 November right outside MPH 1 Utama. There were fun and games, balloons give-away, lucky dip and yummy-licious cake to eat! Everyone had a great time with the activities, ranging from science experiments to clay making. All these were made possible thanks to BBC Knowledge Magazine and the good people from Mad Science, Money Tree, Elite Toys, Math Monkey, TMSArt and LMW Enterprise.

Tokens Of Love 2009 @ MPH

Ho! Ho! Ho! Season’s greetings from MPH!

Can you hear the jingle? Can you feel the excitement? Can you sense the air of festivity? Yes, Christmas is coming and many are anticipating it for various reasons. It’s a time to rekindle friendship, family gathering, go holiday, eat to our heart’s content, and shop! Check out our latest copy of Tokens of Love at any MPH Bookstores near you for book and gift recommendations. In the spirit of giving, we would like to reward you, our loyal customers with Tokens of Love Treats. All you have to do is print out the coupons to enjoy savings when you shop at MPH Bookstores!

While we are busy indulging in ourselves and loved ones, let us not forget the less fortunate and underprivileged. After all, Christmas is symbolic not just with the exchanging of gifts but also charity. Be it in terms of monetary or in kind, even a simple act of giving your time can make a world of difference.

For the past 16 years, MPH Bookstores together with the generosity of other corporations and the public have embarked on Share-A-Gift. The objective of this programme is simple and straightforward – to provide less fortunate children and orphans with appropriate reading materials. Themed ‘You are not alone’ this year, we want to spread the message that a book can make for a good companion. For a child that comes from a broken home, it is a reminder that they are not forgotten; that somebody out there still remembers and cares for them through Share-A-Gift.

Description:

The story about the party that rule Singapore for the past 50 years. First time reveal of unheard stories from the leftist. The book tells of how a party founded in 1954 by a motley crew of English-educated professionals and Chinese, Malay and Indian trade unionists and activists fended off threats from pro-communist elements and made adjustments to win 12 successive general elections, becoming the longest-ruling political party in the world. It marks its 50th anniversary in power this year.

The 600+ page book also lifts the veil from some of the most dramatic events in the party’s 55-year history, such as the first leftist plot to seize control in 1957 and how Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s parliamentary secretary came to lead the challenge against the prime minister in 1961. It is written by Straits Times senior journalists Sonny Yap, Richard Lim and Leong Weng Kam, who interviewed 300 people, including leftists whose voices are not featured in existing literature on Singapore’s history. They also went through 200 oral history interviews and pored over confidential documents.
