Jodi Picoult is back with her latest novel Sing You Home.

Zoe and Max have just had nother miscarriage. The cost of invitro fertilisation has taken its toll on both parties both financially and physically. Eventually, they divorce and Zoe falls in love with a woman while Max joins a church. Zoe’s maternal instict to be a mother is still as strong as ever, and that is when she remembers that there are three frozen embryos forgotten in the wake of her divorce. She asks Max for permission to use them but he is persuaded by the church to deny her request and offer them to his sister and brother-in-law instead.

The recipe for assam laksa kickstarts the book, with detailed instructions on the soup, spice paste, garnish and even assembly. Next is char kuey tiaw and Hokkien mee, the two other mainstays of Penang cuisine. The book is worth getting for these three recipes alone.

Prequel. If there was a word feared and loathed by readers who like book series, it is this word. While some of this “story-before-the-first-story” cna be entertaining, I’ve found that most prequels are either unnecessary or blatant attempts to cash in on the sucess of a fiction franchise.

The book title suggests that you’re going to master recipes taught by a cooking school. However, a few pages into the book and you’ll realise that it’s a compilation of 75 recipes to help you “master the basics of Chinese cuisine.”

Apparently, Cooking School is a new series of cookbooks to help you to replicate “the world’s most popular cuisines in your own kitchen”.

This cookbook promises to teach you how to make classic dishes and new and contemporary twists on old favourites.

There will also be a panel of experts present for you to learn in person how they blend the use of social media into their business and personal lives.

Participants of the seminar will acquire a better understanding of the world of social media and have access to a range of social networking tactics that will help them reach new customers and clients, as well as to get the existing ones to do more business with them. Guy Clapperton is a journalist, broadcaster and book author/editor specialising in small business. He is the author of “The Social Media: Tweet, Blog, Link and Post Your Way to Business Success”.

Guy Clapperton also contributes to The Guardian, Sunday Times, The Financial Times and other numerous periodicals. Most recently, he edited a supplement on Virtualisation from Raconteur Media, which is included in every issue of the Times.
