Meet the Guardians of Our Traditions and Heritage
As our nation celebrates our 60th Independence Day, we count the many ways we have come far in term of the development of our infrastructure, our relationship with one another and the achievements we made as a nation. But as we look towards the future, it is easy to forget the many people who are safeguarding the heritages of our past, and in his brilliant pictorial collection, Kenny Loh went deep into the heart and soul of our nation to find these precious guardians of our traditions.
Kenny went to small towns to capture the images of second and third generation businessmen who learned everything they know from their ancestors, artisans who understood that anything of value deserves the most diligent and backbreaking attention to details, everymen whose family depend on them to bring back food at the end of the day, and young men and women who look to their parents and grandparents to make sure the tradition stays alive.
Kenny averts his gaze from the glitz and glamour of shiny new shopping malls and digital future to cast our eyes to the real men and women of Malaysia, and reminds us that while we anxiously and hopefully look to the future, we cannot forget the past that will lead us there. Happy Merdeka month!
