Shopping for books is made all the more rewarding through ‘Membaca Sambil Beramal’, a CSR program that is running in its third year by MPH Bookstores.
For just RM10, customers who buy the card will enjoy 10% discount on all books under Mutiara Minda, a section dedicated to Malay novels. The very same card also entitles them to 20% off selected titles. A free catalogue too has been produced and placed in all outlets with Mutiara Minda section, allowing customers to take and view what are on offer.
On top of benefiting from discounts, the card holder is also contributing to charity as the RM10 from the card goes directly to welfare homes for underprivileged children. With the holy month of Ramadan dawning upon us, now is a good time as any to remember that the less fortunate is also looking forward to the festivity.
The card would serve as a nice gift to loved ones who enjoy reading. Companies too should consider purchasing this card as a form of encouragement for their staffs to pick up the reading habit.
Since the program begin in 2009, twenty homes have received a total of RM88,000 thanks in large to charitable customers. Of course, this program would not have been possible without the generous support of MPH Bookstores’ partners in agreeing to the discounts. It is hoped through this program, local authors’ in particular for Malay titles, will gain the much needed exposure as the market indicates a promising future for the demand of these books.
